The [G 34 / omnivorous] kori bustard, weighing over 25 pounds, is the heaviest bird of flight in Africa. However, with its three short, stout toes and broad soles it is suited for running and spends most of it time on the ground. Both male and female are grayish-brown and have a flattened head and beak. The white feathers around the male's neck and tail fan as part of its mating call. When threatened, they hide by crouching.
